New Zealand vrs Belarus - Tua-Ustinov fight postponed until November Print E-mail

August 14, 2013 AAP - David Tua's heavyweight fight against Belarusian Alexander Ustinov has been put back 11 weeks due to an injury suffered by the veteran New Zealander.

The fight in Hamilton which was scheduled for August 31 will now take place on November 16 because of the calf muscle tear picked up by Tua in training last week.

Duco Events promoter David Higgins had hoped any postponed fight would take place in September but venue unavailability and a desire not to clash with other major sports events has resulted in a longer hiatus.
Tua, 40, says he is unfazed by the postponement.

"The delay gives me even more time to get into peak condition and it also allows me to leave no stone unturned when it comes to the strategy of the fight," Tua said.
Ustinov, 36, says he is happy with the new date and says such changes aren't unusual in boxing.
